while standing in the customs line last week, this older woman said aloud to her group of girlfriends "hey! look at this kid's hair!"... and that kid was my kid. the woman, her friends, and now other folks in line were admiring ryan's spiky hair which looks just like his dad's. it even needs to be cut every 2 weeks like his dad's.
i had purposely left his hair uncut before our trip hoping that my mom would cut it for me. well, she didn't it and upon returning home, i wanted to take him to a kids hair salon, but josiah had issues with kid hair cuts at$15-20 being more expensive than his own and wanted to cut his hair himself. but how do you get this kid to sit still...?
technique #1: in the high chair. while josiah cuts, i fed ryan so that the cut hair wouldn't get into the food. this lasted about 2 minutes before ryan decides to grab the food with his hands and then rub his hands in his hair.
technique #2: in the bathtub. (thanks to mimi for this idea!) ryan sits fascinated in front of the small stream of running water while i keep him steady and josiah cuts. this works much better and longer even though we had do this again the next day to fix all the strays.
technique #3: in front of the tv. technique #2 worked well enough that we don't have to try this one for another 2 weeks.
